How-To Guides

Six short guides covering the app's most useful features, each with a screenshot: running a drill, planning a full Range Day, reading the shot-by-shot chart, tracking history by trip, and more. The screenshots are from iPhone; the Android app has the same features, laid out for Android.

Common questions

Which shot timers does this app work with?

The Competition Electronics ProTimer BT is fully supported and tested on both iPhone and Android. The SG Timer (Timer 2 / GO), AMG Commander, DAA Edge and Kestrel KST1000 are supported too, but have had less real-world testing — if you have one, a timer report (see below) helps a great deal.

No timer? You can type your times in by hand on either platform.

The app isn't finding my timer — what should I check?

Make sure Bluetooth is on, the timer is powered on and nearby, and it isn't connected to another app or phone — a timer talks to one device at a time. Try turning the timer off and back on if it doesn't connect on the first attempt.

iPhone Allow Bluetooth for the app in Settings → Privacy & Security → Bluetooth.

Android Allow "Nearby devices" when the app asks (Android 12 and later). On Android 8 to 11, Android needs the Location permission and Location turned on before any app can find Bluetooth devices; the app never reads or stores your location.

Shot times stop coming through when my Android phone is locked.

While a timer is connected, Android shows an ongoing "Timer connected" notification — that's what keeps the connection alive in the background. If you don't see it, allow notifications for Shot Timer Drills (Settings → Apps → Shot Timer Drills → Notifications). Some phones also stop background apps to save battery; setting the app's Battery usage to "Unrestricted" in the same place prevents that. Tap Disconnect in the notification when you're done.

Is my data backed up anywhere?

Your drills and history are stored on your device. iPhone If iCloud is on, they also sync to your own private iCloud account. Android If Android's backup is on, they're included in your phone's backup to your Google account.

On either platform, Settings → Export All Data saves everything — shooters, drills, runs and personal bests — as one file you can keep anywhere. You can also export history or drills as CSV spreadsheets.

Can I move my data between iPhone and Android?

Yes. Use Export All Data on one phone, send the file to the other (email, a messaging app, or cloud storage like Google Drive or iCloud Drive), and open it with Import in the app's Settings. Import only adds what's new: shooters and drills with the same name are matched, not copied, and nothing already on the phone is overwritten.

Where do my recorded videos go?

With Record Video on, each string is filmed with your phone's camera and saved to your photo library — on Android, in Movies/Shot Timer Drills. Videos never leave your phone unless you share them.

What is a timer report?

A short, anonymous summary of how your timer connected and how many shots it sent, so the developer can confirm each brand of timer works. It never includes names, drills or scores. The app sends a couple automatically and you can turn them off at any time (iPhone Settings → Timer Diagnostics; Android Settings → Share Timer Diagnostics). You can also send one yourself from Timer Setup → Send Timer Report if something isn't working. Details are in the Privacy Policy.

Can I add my own drills?

Yes — from the Drills tab, build a custom drill from scratch with any target type, scoring method, distance, and par time, or import drills from a CSV file.

For how the app handles your data, see the Privacy Policy.
